A stunning game-five performance for the Philadelphia 76ers has led to them having a close-out opportunity in game 6 at home to eliminate the Boston Celtics.
A mere four days ago, it seemed that it would continue to take James Harden having incredible games for them to squeak out wins. On Tuesday night, it didn’t matter. Joel Embiid dominated the game and there were incredible performances from the role players.
Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and even Daunel House Jr added some huge plays that led to a dominant win.
The Celtics, despite being down 3-2 and heading to Philadelphia are currently a 2-point favorite in the elimination game. In the two games that the Celtics have won, they have been a dominant team.
They ran the 76ers out of the gym in those two games, and with the series being tied 2-2 going into last night it seemed that they would take control of the series. That did not happen. They got a great game out of Jayson Tatum, but it wasn’t enough. Missed free throws and terrible defense all night led to the demise.
In game, for this series to continue, the Celtics are going to have to make three-pointers. In Game 5 they shot 27% before a late barrage gave them a few to make it look a little more respectable.
If they get the same effort from Al Horford, then there may not be anything that they can do. He was horrible tonight, 0-7 from, and had no answers for Embiid on defense. The lack of adjustments from Joe Mazzulla was also stunning.
They had zero answers for the pick-and-roll with Harden and Embiid. That action got the 76ers whatever they wanted the entire night.

Like Mazzulla, Boston’s young stars must learn from their past lapses, and that is not so easy in two days’ time. It takes years, and they are six seasons into their championship pursuit.
If they cannot correct them for a win-or-go-home Game 6 in Philadelphia, the Celtics at least have to begin wondering if they ever will.
game 5 is ours.
