Blink and you miss it. We’re already into Week 3 of the NFL season, with some huge games on the board this Sunday. If you’re sizing up the NFL betting odds, these popular games will likely draw the bulk of the action this weekend. Here’s a glance at their spreads and totals:
New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (-3, 53)
This is a big NFC South showdown between two 1-1 teams. The Falcons rebounded from a bad showing in Week 1, losing to the Eagles, and put together a good two-way performance in a victory over Carolina last Sunday. The biggest thing for Atlanta was an improvement on offense. It only managed 12 points in the opener but hung 31 points on a solid Panthers defense, and looks to exploit a Saints stop unit that has struggled to slow down foes.
New Orleans was stung by Tampa Bay in Week 1, allowing 48 points to the Bucs, then just barely beat the Browns at home. The Saints have had trouble getting their opponents off the field, allowing teams to convert 48 percent of their third down chances so far. These teams know each other very well, and have gone Under the total in seven of their previous 11 meetings. The total for this Week 3 clash is set at 53 points.
Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams (-7, 48)
The two L.A. franchises face off in Week 3, with the Rams giving a touchdown. This spread briefly bounced down to -6.5 before money on the favorite ran it back to the key number. While the Rams have been impressive through two weeks, their level of competition hasn’t been that convincing. Los Angeles looked shaky in the first half versus Oakland in Week 1, before the Raiders crumbled, and then the Rams rolled a terrible Cardinals club.
The Chargers picked up a win over Buffalo in Week 2 and couldn’t keep pace with the red-hot Chiefs in the season opener. Los Angeles’ defense is missing pass-rush star Joey Bosa desperately, allowing an average of 29 points through two weeks. The Bolts do have the offensive firepower to match the Rams, with Philp Rivers, Keenan Allen, and Melvin Gordon headlining this attack that’s putting almost 30 points up per contests. The total for this game is set at 48 points.
Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks (-1.5, 41.5)
The Seahawks are 0-2 and looked dreadful in a road loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night. This spread opened with Seattle as a field-goal favorite at home but has since moved to -1.5, after watching QB Russell Wilson get sacked six times – moving his total to 12 sacks taken on the season. The Seahawks now face another ferocious pass rush from the Cowboys, who got to Giants quarterback Eli Manning six times in their win on Sunday night.
Neither team looks great on offense. Dallas is very much missing former targets TE Jason Witten and WR Dez Bryant, and while the Cowboys struck for a deep TD to speedster Tavon Austin to open the Week 2 tilt, the passing game was very pedestrian after that. Dak Prescott was able to keep the chains moving with some running plays, and got some help from RB Ezekiel Elliott, who hasn’t rushed for big numbers despite finding the end zone twice. The total for this late kickoff Sunday is set at 41.5 points after opening as high as 44.5.
